When You Need Us
Chesed – Kindness Commitee
Chesed or "Acts of Loving-Kindness" is not considered tzedakah; it is said to be a higher deed than tzedakah because it is the giving of one's self. When we give tzedakah we can only hope it goes to the greatest good and we never know the effects it may have, but kindness instantly affects an individual and the world. Together we provide for the needs of members of our community during difficult times in their lives.
Bikur Cholim (support during illnesss)
If you are someone who likes to “do” for others, you may be interested in joining the efforts of the Chesed Committee. The Chesed, or “kindness,” committee is the heart of the TBS community, engaging in acts of caring and compassion to comfort and support members of our Temple Beth Sholom family in their time of need.
The Bikur Cholim arm of the committee reaches out to our Temple family members who are homebound, elderly, or recovering from surgery or illness. It may involve making a one-time phone call just to check in on a person, or it might develop into a weekly Shabbat Shalom call each Friday or even a budding friendship. We offer to deliver a meal, come for a friendly visit, or run an errand.
The Chesed committee’s efforts also touch those who have experienced the loss of a loved one. During this difficult time, members of the shiva coordinating arm of the committee, if needed, can assist in preparing the home for shiva, meal delivery, and errands, and remain in touch as a support network after shiva has ended.
We look forward to welcoming you to our incredible Chesed team!
